wfco Volunteer Opportunities
How to Give Your Time, Talent, Treasure, and Testimony
As a community foundation, most of our impact is achieved through the collective impact of generous donations, collaborative efforts, and strategic partnerships in public policy advocacy, research, and grantmaking. Volunteers are also cricital for our success - and the success of women across our state. We offer or promote the following opportunities annually:
“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” — Unknown
Committees
WFCO has several committees comprised of community members who lend their expertise to The Foundation to inform our decisions and strengthen outcomes. Committees include the Annual Luncheon committee, Audit & Finance committee, Communications Advisory committee, Development committee, Direct-service grantmaking committee, Investment committee, Public Policy committee, and Programmatic Investment Committee. We are currently seeking members for the following:
Annual Luncheon committee
As the state's largest gathering benefiting Colorado women and girls, a lot of preparation goes into our Annual Luncheon. Do you have a large network you can tap into on behalf of The Foundation? We need your help to secure sponsorships. We also need volunteers the day before the Luncheon and the day of the Luncheon to help prepare gift bags for table captains, stuff nametags, help set up tables, and more. If you are interested, please contact Kaylyn Fern, development officer, at kaylynf@wfco.org.
Direct-Service Grantmaking committee
The committee advises the WFCO board of trustees on grantmaking decisions regarding the direct-service members of our WINcome grantmaking, based on review of all letters of interest (LOIs), proposals, and reports submitted by applicants and grantees, as well as participation in learning opportunities with the cohort.
WFCO strives for the committee to be a diverse body of Coloradans committed to supporting women and girls across the state. Through service on the committee, members will learn about our community and issues facing women and girls, and develop as leaders and philanthropists. Responsibilities of committee members include:
- Participate in at least two meetings per year
- Committee orientation and training
- Grantmaking renewal meeting
- Review renewal grant applications from WAGES cohort grantees and recommend future grants
- Participate in grantmaking selections and recommend grantees to the Board of Trustees
- Participate in site visits with grantees
- Monitor grantee progress through updates from WFCO staff
- Participate in learning opportunities with the cohort
For additional questions, please contact Alison Friedman Phillips, director of programs, at alisonp@wfco.org.

Join our Colorado Ambassador's Network (CAN)
Anyone can be an ambassador for The Foundation. What does this look like? Sharing our research with your community, following us and actively engaging with us on social media, contacting your legislators about important bills impacting women, recruiting people to our luncheon and other events, and so much more. It also means sharing information with us that we should know to best serve the women in our state. If that sounds easy to you, it is! Join our WFCO Colorado Ambassador Network (WFCO CAN) for quarterly meetings to meet other women from across the state and to learn from each other.
