Mother's Day Conversation with Camille Dungy

In an interview with WFCO President & CEO Lauren Y. Casteel, Fort Collins author Camille Dungy will discuss the possibility and wonder that grows from the earth. As described in her book, the various plants, herbs, vegetables, and flowers she grows in her garden are a metaphor and treatise for how homogeneity threatens the future of our planet, and why cultivating diverse and intersectional language in our national discourse about the environment is the best means of protecting it.

Making Mental Health Care Accessible for Colorado Women

More Americans have sought mental health treatment since 2019, especially women and younger adults. Experts assume that the psychological effects of grief, loss, economic challenges, and substance abuse will affect our communities and increase the need for behavioral health care for years to come. Dr. Morgan Medlock, the state's first Behavioral Health Commissioner, shared how our state prioritizing mental health care accessibility for women, especially women of color. Patrece Hairston Peetz, PsyD with Authentic Mamas Project, Bridget Anshus, senior policy advocate with Mental Health Colorado., and Diana Pineda with Vuela for Health also shared their expertise and experiences within the mental health care field.

In this Chat4Change we hosted renowned author and organizer Ai-jen Poo to hear what's happening nationally for care workers. The Resounding Impacts of Domestic Violence

On October 22, more than 60 people joined our latest Chat4Change, focusing on the resounding impacts of domestic violence. Experts from across the state participated in a virtual panel discussion led by WFCO Trustee Danielle Shoots. Panelists included Jenny Abbott, Advocates of Lake County; Angela Cesena, Latina SafeHouse; Ashlee Lewis, The Initiative; Amy Miller, Violence Free Colorado. Women, Aging, and Economic Security

Over the next decade, our state’s demography office predicts the number of Coloradans aged 65 and older will grow by more than 35 percent. WFCO brought together an esteemed panel of experts to discuss what Colorado needs to do to create opportunity through policy and programs for older adults to not merely survive, but to thrive. We addressed age friendly workplaces, eliminating ageism, how Black and Latino communities are impacted, and aging policies. Panelists included Janine Vanderburg, Changing the Narrative; Andrea Kuwik, Bell Policy Center; John Reid, Center for African American Health; Mike Cortes, Colorado Latino Leadership, Advocacy, and Research Organization.
