Why Us?

Thirty years have flown by since the founders of The Women’s Foundation of Colorado came together to launch a philanthropic force for women and families in Colorado. Our founders knew then, as we do now, that when women thrive, Colorado rises, and they were determined to drive long-term change to address the disproportionate number of women living in poverty.

Tremendous progress has been made to fulfill the potential of women and girls since 1987, but there is much work to be done. While Colorado is prospering, there are still more than 500,000 women in our state still living in or near poverty. Every day they stand at the crossroads of feeding their children or fixing their car. Paying for child care or losing their job. Surviving or thriving.

WFCO has long known that systemic change requires a deep and sustained philanthropic commitment by many. And now, more than ever, without philanthropy, change for women will come too slowly or not at all.

The movement to advance and accelerate economic opportunity for Colorado women is fueled by the generosity of donors, the vision of our founders, the wisdom of our trustees past and present, the excellence of our staff, the hard work of our grantee partners, and the gifts and talents of the women and girls who call our state home.
