Capacity Building
The Women's Foundation of Colorado works to build the capacity of its nonprofit partners. Although we recognize that our partners are the true "experts" in the field of women's and girls' economic self-sufficiency, the WFCO offers classes, workshops and publications to build the knowledge base and the organization's ability to succeed.
According to the Alliance for Nonprofit Excellence, capacity refers to an organization's ability to achieve its mission effectively and to sustain itself over the long term. For organizations, capacity building may relate to almost any aspect of its work: improved governance, leadership, mission and strategy, administration, program development and implementation, fundraising and income generation, diversity, partnerships and collaboration, evaluation, advocacy and policy change, marketing, positioning, planning, etc.
WFCO and Capacity Building
- In 2005 and 2006, the WFCO partnered with Metro Volunteers to engage its nonprofit partners in volunteer management training workshops.
- The WFCO has spent decades convening its partners and bringing them together for peer-to-peer learning programs.
- The WFCO Research program has allowed nonprofit partners to frame their proposals with the accurate statistics and information they need to present their case of behalf of women and girls striving to reach economic self sufficiency.
- From time to time, the WFCO staff assists its partners with grant writing and budget presentation techniques.
