Women's Funding Network: Healthy Relationships Grant

In 2006, The Women's Foundation of Colorado (WFCO) obtained funding for the "Healthy Women and Healthy Relationships: What Constitutes a Healthy Relationship and Family in Denver, Colorado?"

With $25,000 in support from the Women's Funding Network, the WFCO and its partners researched and identified what constitutes a healthy relationship and family. Neighborhood residents from Making Connections Denver and Project WISE were targeted to participate in training and counseling program over the course of six months. Outcome measurements, surveys and research tools were used to capture what this group of women understands as a healthy relationship / healthy family. The need for a research project like this is great.

Currently, 32.6% of single-mother-families (with children below age 18) live below poverty in Denver County (Denver Women's Commission, 2004). In addition, women with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in Denver (Denver Commission to End Homelessness, 2005).
